First Holy Mass Celebration of Priests

I had the honor to create the altar floral decorations to celebrate the first mass of newly ordained priests, Fr. Benedict Radich and Fr. James Fangmeyer. In the weeks leading up to their ordination to the priesthood, I met with their mothers to select arrangements that were both meaningful and symbolic.

They had a lovely time selecting beautiful flowers that matched with both of their son's vestments but also made a nod towards biblical references. The vessels used symbolized the first miracle of Jesus, turning the water into wine and his mother, Mary who interceded for the wedding guests. In a like manner, the priests will turn to Mother Mary for intercession during their priesthood, and we can each be a vessel for Jesus.

The roses, were for Our Lady, whose favorite flower is a rose, and blue delphinium for the color of her mantle. There was thistle, which is often shown in biblical art and represents perseverance in trials. And lastly, we incorporated ivy for St. Patrick as the first mass was celebrated in the parish of St. Patrick.

The day of the first mass was absolutely stunning watching the young men use their newly anointed hands to lift the Eucharist and celebrate the body of Christ given out of love to all the world.
